In the beginning …
There were waxed cylinder players, phonograph players, then came CD, DVD and SACD players, and computer based audio player programs for formats like PCM, Wave, AIFF, MP1, MP2, MP3, and MP4. All of these traditional audio formats have one thing in common the audio is played in a linear fashion from beginning to end.
JamBox is an Interactive Audio Player program which promises to revolutionize the way we relate to music. JamBox plays a new type of audio media file called a Jamlet.
Jamlets
Jamlets are smart media files, they contain one or more audio segments as well
as instructions on how and when to play audio or to display web pages in the
built-in Web Browser. Music Jamlets can have four main features that
differentiate them from Linear audio media formats like CD, MP3, AAC or WMA.
Kaleidascopic
A Kaleidoscopic Jamlet never plays the same way twice. Songs can be
rendered in a variety of ways. Compositions can have randomly alternate solos,
verses, choruses or endings.
Infinite
An Infinite Jamlet will play forever if you let it.
Interactive
Interactive Jamlets can give you the capability to play along with the music on
the keyboard or screen rather than being just a passive listener. Other types
of user interaction with a Jamlet are possible as well, like alternate solos,
verses, choruses or endings, controlled by user input.
Multimedia
Multimedia Jamlets can visually entertain you while you are listening to the
audio. The Web Browser is driven by the Jamlet file and can display web pages
or images in synchronization with the music or audio program.
For example, P-Jam, Atomic Tangerine’s jazz/fusion Jamlet, which comes bundled with the Player, is Kaleidoscopic as well as Infinite, Interactive and Multimedia Enhanced. This Jamlet brings the listener an infinite variety of ways to hear the improvisational styles of Atomic Tangerine’s music in a constantly changing way. Kaleidascopic Jamlets take you to the next level beyond the confines of traditional Linear recordings, where you listen to a musical composition from start to finish. You can Jam along with the music on your computer keyboard using 16 built in Drum sounds, 19 Bass notes or riffs, 6 Rhythm Guitar licks, and 16 Lead Guitar Phrases. While you are listening to or interacting with the P-Jam you can view the P-Jams web page on Atomic Tangerine’s web site www.atomictangerinemusic.com. The P-Jams web page displays a keyboard map so you can tell which keys on your keyboard play which musical instruments. The P-Jam has 4 different Mixes built in. One is Kaleidascopic and plays Infinitely. A Linear Mix is built in so you can hear how the song was originally played. A Jam Along mix without Lead Guitars is provided as well as a Jam Along mix without Lead and Rhythm Guitars.
